Al Hilal Saudi star decides to leave and Barcelona wants to sign him

Barcelona is aiming to complete several major signings to strengthen their squad and aim for success both in Europe and globally.

One key area the club wants to reinforce is the right-back position, which would allow Jules Koundé to return to his preferred role as a central defender.

According to the Catalan newspaper Sport, Portuguese international Joao Cancelo is eager to return to Europe after his stint with Saudi club Al-Hilal.

Cancelo’s contract with Al-Hilal runs until June 2027, following his transfer from Manchester City last summer for €25 million.

However, the player is reportedly keen on a return to Europe, with Barcelona emerging as a potential destination.

The Portuguese right-back previously spent a season on loan at Barcelona from Manchester City, but his high salary at Al-Hilal had initially made a move to the Catalan club difficult.

In a past interview, Cancelo revealed that although Real Madrid’s Pepe had hoped he would join them, he has always been a Barcelona fan and knew exactly where he wanted to play.

At 30 years old, Cancelo believes he is still capable of competing at the highest level in Europe, particularly with Barcelona, after impressive performances with both Al-Hilal and the Portuguese national team.
