Tottenham Hotspur manager Angelos Postecoglou took responsibility for his side’s lackluster performance this season following a surprise 2-1 home defeat by Premier League champions Ipswich on Sunday.
After knocking out Manchester City in the League Cup and beating Aston Villa 4-1 in the Premier League last weekend, Tottenham suffered a shock 3-2 defeat at Galatasaray in the Europa League on Thursday.
There were boos from Tottenham fans at the end of the game on Sunday as Ipswich claimed their first Premier League win since April 2002. The defeat left Tottenham in 10th place with 16 points from 11 games.
Postecoglou’s statements
“The inconsistency we’re showing this year is ultimately down to me and my approach, and it’s something I have to try to fix and see if I can help the players in that area,” Postecoglou told reporters.
The Australian coach did not consider the Thursday-Sunday games to be the reason for the team’s difficulties.
“If that was the issue, we’d probably feel it more at the end of games, and we don’t feel it at the end,” he added.
Midfielder Pape Matar Sarr and striker Dominic Solanke were both ruled out of Sunday’s game with injuries, but Postecoglou believes both have avoided serious problems.
“I think Pape is fine. He just took a hit,” he added. “Dom injured his knee, it was quite painful, but he wanted to continue. We hope it’s not something serious.”
