It’s been just over a month since Erik ten Hag was dismissed by Manchester United, but he remains a hot topic among fans, especially after the team’s 4-0 victory over Everton this past weekend.
Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo each scored twice, with Ruben Amorim’s reign as manager showing early promise. Amorim has been quick to praise players like Diallo, who has been in exceptional form.
Amad, who played as a right-wing-back in their 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town, impressed Amorim with his defensive growth. Amorim noted, “He’s improved a lot, particularly defensively. He was very focused and did an excellent job, especially against the left-back he faced.”
On Sunday, Amad continued his strong performances, scoring twice and assisting Rashford on both of his goals against Everton. This display prompted many fans to criticize Ten Hag’s treatment of Amad during his time at the club.
Fans pointed to Ten Hag’s decision to regularly favor Antony over Amad, particularly during the October match against Fenerbahce, which sparked significant backlash online.
During the Everton match, one fan commented, “It blows my mind that ETH watched him every day in training and still chose Antony over him. What a player Amad is.” Another said, “I’m not sure I’ll ever forgive Erik Ten Hag for how he treated Amad Diallo.”
Additional reactions included: “It’s bizarre it took more than four months for Amad to get a start last season. Even more bizarre that Omari Forson was picked ahead of him. He tore Everton apart today. He’s a perfect fit for Amorim’s system,” and “Amad is by far our best pressing player, yet Ten Hag, who wanted to play pressing football, barely used him.”
