Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract expires in June 2025, has been linked with a potential free transfer to Real Madrid. Despite ongoing speculation, the 26-year-old has made it clear he does not intend to let his contract situation play out publicly, as his teammate Mo Salah’s did.
Alexander-Arnold, who has been with Liverpool for 20 years and signed multiple contract extensions during his time at the club, stated that his current contract negotiations will remain private, just like his previous ones.
Real Madrid, the reigning Spanish and European champions, are widely expected to pursue Alexander-Arnold next summer, with the player able to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs starting January 1. This comes amid reports suggesting that Madrid has already been in contact with Liverpool executives.
In the same interview with Sky Sports, Alexander-Arnold discussed his position for the first time since rumors about Madrid’s interest emerged. He also pointed out that he is not the only Liverpool player facing a contract situation. Salah and Virgil van Dijk are also in the final year of their deals, with Salah having publicly stated that Liverpool has not yet offered him a new contract, although recent reports suggest he is close to agreeing to a two-year extension.
As for Van Dijk, Liverpool’s captain confirmed in October that discussions about his future are ongoing but emphasized his focus remains on performing for the team, with no decisions yet made.
