Arne Slot gave a brief seven-word answer regarding the contracts of Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold.
Arne Slot’s Brief Response on Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold’s Contracts
The futures of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are still uncertain, with Liverpool manager Arne Slot remaining tight-lipped following their 3-1 comeback win against Leicester.
When asked about the trio’s contract situations, Slot avoided the topic, saying, “We don’t talk about contracts in public.” He added that discussions about new deals are handled by the players and sporting director Richard Hughes, offering no further comment on their future.
Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold all played key roles in Liverpool’s Boxing Day victory, which increased their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points. After falling behind early due to a deflected goal by Jordan Ayew, Liverpool responded with goals from Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones, and Salah.
While Salah has expressed frustration over not receiving a new contract offer despite his excellent form—18 goals and 15 assists in 24 matches—Van Dijk appears likely to stay. However, Alexander-Arnold, whose contract expires in July, is reportedly attracting interest from Real Madrid and could leave on a free transfer.
Despite these potential distractions, Liverpool remain focused, leading both the Premier League and Champions League while also advancing to the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
Slot downplayed title expectations, saying, “As a manager, you go game by game. There’s still so much quality in other teams.” Salah, on the other hand, expressed his desire to win the league, stating, “The most important thing is the team winning. Hopefully, we stay humble and achieve something special.”
