Cristiano Ronaldo strongly criticizes the Ballon d’Or organizers

Cristiano Ronaldo made headlines at the Globe Soccer Awards with some sharp comments, particularly aimed at France. After criticizing the level of Ligue 1, the Al-Nassr star turned his attention to the 2024 Ballon d’Or, which was awarded to Rodri, arguing that Vinícius Júnior was more deserving.

“I enjoy competing with young players. It’s a source of motivation. I like comparing myself to their speed, their shooting, their physical condition… but let’s be honest, they are not in better shape than me, it’s a joke. Bellingham, Lamine, Vinícius… they are fantastic players. In my opinion, Vinícius should have won the Ballon d’Or. It’s unfair. He won the Champions League and scored in the final.”

He continued: “When someone deserves it, it should be given to them. Rodri deserved it too, but for me, Vini was above.

These awards always have the same biases, which is why I appreciate the Globe Soccer Awards – they remain honest and should continue that way.”

Ronaldo’s statements came with conviction, though it’s worth remembering that he didn’t hold the same view when he himself won the Ballon d’Or five times.
