Curtis Jones Marks 100th Appearance with Key Role in Liverpool’s Comeback Win Over Leicester
Curtis Jones celebrated his 100th appearance for Liverpool with a crucial goal in the Reds’ 3-1 victory over Leicester City on Boxing Day. The midfielder, who was handed his debut by manager Jürgen Klopp, received a heartfelt message from the German after the match, congratulating him on reaching the milestone.
Jones, now a first-team regular, has grown from an academy hopeful to a pivotal figure under both Klopp and his successor, Arne Slot. This season, the 22-year-old has been instrumental in Liverpool’s success, with Slot continuing to trust him in key roles.
Speaking to Match of the Day, Jones shared: “I normally text family after games, but this time I saw a message from Klopp saying, ‘Congratulations on 100 games, and here’s to 500.’ I thought, ‘What’s he on about?’ But when I checked, I felt proud. It was him who laid the foundations for this team, and Arne has just carried that forward.”
Jones’s goal helped Liverpool come from behind to secure the win, and he emphasized that despite the team’s current form, there’s still much work to be done. “There are plenty of games to come. Whether you’re playing a team at the bottom, middle, or top, it’s always a tough game. We just have to focus on winning each one, and if we do that, we know what comes at the end,” he said.
Klopp has often referred to Jones as “a role model for all our academy guys,” and many homegrown talents have thrived in the first team, contributing to Liverpool’s pursuit of a second Premier League title.
Despite some skepticism over Slot’s ability to replace Klopp, the team’s form under the new manager has been impressive. With the victory over Leicester, Liverpool now sit seven points clear at the top of the Premier League, with a game in hand.
