Antony moved to Manchester United from Ajax for a hefty £82m (potentially rising with add-ons) late in the 2022 summer transfer window. Familiar to former manager Erik ten Hag, the Brazilian winger had difficulty adjusting to the Premier League from the start.
So far, Antony has scored just 12 goals and provided five assists in 93 appearances for United across all competitions. His underwhelming performances led to him losing favor with Ten Hag before the manager’s departure earlier this season. Since Ruben Amorim took charge, Antony’s role has remained limited.
Spanish outlet ABC Sevilla reports that Real Betis is now targeting Antony for a move in the January transfer window. The winger is one of several players United is looking to offload as part of a squad reshuffle. With restricted finances, the club needs to sell players to generate funds for Amorim to reshape the squad.
In a recent interview with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Antony’s agent, Junior Pedroso, confirmed that several clubs have shown interest in the player ahead of January. “Yes, many clubs have approached us about Antony,” Pedroso said. “They wanted to understand his situation, so I can confirm there’s genuine interest.”
However, Pedroso also mentioned that Manchester United hasn’t directly informed him or Antony that the winger is surplus to requirements. Nonetheless, TEAMtalk understands that Antony is indeed among the players the club wants to move on, even if this has not been explicitly communicated to him.
