Manchester United fans have expressed mixed opinions regarding the rumored transfer price for Marcus Rashford, sparking division among the fanbase.
Rashford, 27, has recently fallen out of favor with manager Ruben Amorim and was excluded from Manchester United’s matchday squads for four consecutive games against Manchester City, Tottenham, Bournemouth, and Wolves, before being named as a substitute in the 2-0 loss to Newcastle on Monday. In an interview with journalist Henry Winter on December 17, Rashford revealed he was “ready for a new challenge and the next steps.”
Since then, several clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, Al-Ittihad, and Arsenal, have been linked with the forward. Although Arsenal’s interest has been described as “tentative,” a move could happen if certain “conditions” are met, according to Football Transfers. One condition is that Raheem Sterling, currently on loan at Chelsea, would need to return to his parent club, thus freeing up space in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
Despite this, it’s suggested that even if Arsenal were to sign Rashford, it wouldn’t affect their ongoing pursuit of Nico Williams or Rafael Leao.
Rashford is under contract with Manchester United until June 2028 and reportedly earns a substantial £375,000 per week, as per Capology. In comparison, Kai Havertz is the highest-paid player at Arsenal, earning £280,000 per week, meaning Rashford would likely have to accept a pay cut to make the move.
However, Football Transfers also notes that Arsenal is “not willing” to pay £25m for Rashford, viewing him as “nothing more than a squad player” in Arteta’s system.
The potential transfer has sparked a variety of opinions among Manchester United supporters. One fan commented, “So they haven’t considered it then, have they? Because they’re never going to sell for that.” Another user said, “£40-50m is good enough.”
