Fabrizio Romano ANNOUNCES Arsenal’s first January transfer

Celtic are in negotiations with Arsenal to re-sign Kieran Tierney, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Scottish left-back is set to leave the London club after a challenging few seasons. Signed by Unai Emery in 2019, Tierney lost his starting spot under Mikel Arteta and has largely been sidelined at Arsenal. Injuries have hampered his ability to compete for a regular place, and he spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad.

While in Spain, Tierney admitted it was hard to envision a future at Arsenal. However, a move last summer didn’t materialize due to an injury during Euro 2024, from which he only recently recovered.

Now, it seems his departure is imminent, with reports suggesting a return to Celtic, where he rose through the ranks and won five Scottish league titles. Romano has confirmed that Arsenal and Celtic are in talks, with Tierney eager to reunite with the club he started his career at.

This move has been anticipated ever since Arsenal chose not to trigger the option for a one-year contract extension, signaling that Tierney would likely leave in 2025.

There has been some interest from other clubs, including Aston Villa, where Emery remains a fan of the player, but it seems the emotional pull of Celtic is taking precedence.

Tierney has made 125 appearances for Arsenal, scoring five goals and providing 13 assists.
