Christopher Nkunku Contemplates January Move to Arsenal
Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku is reportedly considering a transfer to Arsenal in the upcoming January window. The 27-year-old French international has struggled to secure consistent playing time under manager Enzo Maresca this season, starting only three Premier League matches.
Nkunku’s recent start in Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Ipswich highlighted his ongoing difficulties in establishing himself in the Premier League. However, he has impressed in European competition, netting seven goals and providing three assists in seven Conference League appearances. Despite his success in Europe, Nkunku is dissatisfied with his limited domestic opportunities and is exploring a potential move away from Stamford Bridge.
His representatives are reportedly assessing various options, with Arsenal emerging as a potential destination. According to CaughtOffside, the Gunners are one of the clubs being considered as Nkunku looks for a fresh start. Arsenal, currently excelling in the Premier League, could view Nkunku as a valuable addition to their attack. Despite their strong offensive form, having scored 35 goals in 18 league games, Arsenal may look to strengthen their forward options, and Nkunku’s ability to play as a No. 9 could offer the team greater depth and versatility in their title chase.
If the move goes through, Nkunku would become the fourth player to switch from Chelsea to Arsenal in the past two years, reflecting the Gunners’ keen interest in bolstering their squad with players who can adapt to their tactical style.
A return to Paris Saint-Germain, where Nkunku started his career before moving to RB Leipzig, is also a potential option.
Chelsea seems open to letting dissatisfied players leave, with Maresca previously acknowledging that Nkunku has not been used in his best position.
The coach pointed out that Nkunku excels as a No. 10, operating just behind the striker, but he has often been deployed as a No. 9 or even as a winger, where he has been less effective.
