Liverpool May Face Another Fixture Postponement Due to Severe Weather
Liverpool, already dealing with one postponement this season, could face another disruption as severe weather threatens their upcoming match against Manchester United.
Earlier in December, the Reds’ derby against Everton at Goodison Park was postponed because of Storm Darragh. Although the match has been tentatively rescheduled for mid-February, the new weather risks raise concerns over scheduling.
Liverpool vs. Manchester United at Risk
Reports from the Evening Standard suggest that Sunday’s game at Anfield may be postponed. The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for Merseyside, with forecasts predicting heavy snow and freezing rain.
With the match set for a 4:30 pm kickoff, temperatures could feel as low as -2°C. Disruptions to public transport are expected, and some regions of the UK might receive up to 40cm of snow. Fans are advised to bring warm clothing, food, blankets, and ice scrapers.
Scheduling Difficulties
Liverpool’s packed schedule, with games twice a week until mid-February, leaves little room to reschedule the match. If Manchester United advances to the Europa League play-offs, finding an alternative date in February becomes even more challenging, potentially pushing the game to April.
Safety Comes First
While Liverpool is eager to maintain their good form and Manchester United struggles in 14th place, safety is the top priority. If travel conditions for players, staff, and fans are deemed unsafe, authorities may have no choice but to postpone the match.
Fans and officials will be hoping for better weather conditions so the game can proceed as planned, with over 61,000 supporters expected at Anfield.
