Liverpool Faces Fixture Chaos as Weather Warning Looms Ahead of Man United Match
Liverpool may face another major postponement this season due to severe weather conditions. Earlier in December, their Premier League match against Everton was canceled on matchday morning because of Storm Darragh, with a potential reschedule in mid-February.
Now, Liverpool’s upcoming game against Manchester United could also be delayed, as the Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for Merseyside. The forecast predicts heavy snow and freezing rain, with up to 40cm of snow in parts of the UK. This amber alert, which remains in effect until Sunday midnight, raises concerns about travel safety and public transport disruptions.
Temperatures at the scheduled 4:30 pm kickoff could drop as low as -2°C, and attendees are advised to dress warmly, bring blankets, and carry ice scrapers if the match goes ahead.
A postponement would add more challenges to Liverpool’s already packed fixture schedule through mid-February. While the match could be rescheduled next month, Liverpool’s involvement in the Europa League and other competitions may push the game into April, with further progress in the FA Cup and European tournaments reducing available dates.
While fans and players are eager for the match to proceed, especially with Liverpool in strong form and Manchester United struggling in 14th place, safety remains the top priority. If travel conditions are too dangerous, authorities may have no choice but to cancel the game.
For now, supporters are hopeful that Anfield will host its 61,000-strong crowd on Sunday without further disruptions.
