Liverpool fans are expressing frustration with Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold after the duo delivered subpar performances in the Reds’ 2-2 draw against Manchester United on Sunday.
The much-anticipated Premier League clash at Anfield saw many expecting Liverpool to dominate, given United’s struggles, but it was the visitors who controlled the first half and deservedly took the lead after the break with Lisandro Martinez’s goal.
Liverpool responded with Cody Gakpo’s equalizer and Mohamed Salah’s penalty to take the lead, potentially in what could be his final match against United for the club. However, with just over 10 minutes remaining, Amad Diallo netted the equalizer, earning United a valuable point.
Despite the draw being a decent result for United, Liverpool fans were upset and directed their anger at the full-backs, Robertson and Alexander-Arnold, who they felt were responsible for defensive shortcomings.
Both players had a rough outing, struggling to cope with United’s attack. Robertson, in particular, has had a difficult season and looks far from his usual self, with rumors suggesting Liverpool might look to replace him.
Alexander-Arnold, whose contract is approaching its expiration, has also been linked with a potential move to Real Madrid, and fans are clearly frustrated with his recent performances.
On social media, many supporters voiced their displeasure. One user criticized the duo, stating, “All game it’s been down Trent’s side and Robertson at the back post there.
Pair of jokers.” Another said, “Two of the worst full-back performances you will ever see. As predicted, Trent’s contract has totally unsettled him, and Robertson is probably the worst LB in the league now.” Some even went as far as to call them one of the worst defensive pairings ever.
Another fan posted, “Trent and Robertson should cover their faces in shame for this performance,” and one more stated, “Would hate to be Trent and Robertson in that dressing room tonight, knowing you’ve let your whole team down.”
