Just weeks after congratulating Cristiano Ronaldo on X, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is reportedly interested in purchasing Liverpool Football Club, according to the British newspaper Weekend Sport (via Sports Illustrated).
On November 25, 2024, Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr secured a dominant 3-1 victory over Al-Gharafa in the AFC Champions League, with Ronaldo scoring two goals.
After the match, he posted on X: “Big win tonight!” Musk noticed and responded with a simple “Congrats!”
Musk, who recently supported Donald Trump in the November US elections, is rumored to be looking to expand his influence in the UK by acquiring Liverpool.
The club is currently owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG), who purchased it in 2010 for £300 million. As of 2023, Forbes estimates Liverpool’s value at over £4 billion, a sum that Musk, with a net worth of $421.2 billion, could likely afford.
However, FSG President Mike Gordon and the group have made no public indications that they are considering selling, so these reports should be viewed with caution.
In response to Musk’s congratulatory message, Ronaldo jokingly replied on X on November 26, 2024, with a light-hearted jab at Musk, saying: “@elonmusk… Glad your eyes have time for good ‘soccer.’”
Ronaldo has been in outstanding form for Al-Nassr this season, scoring 16 goals and providing 3 assists in 19 appearances.
His contributions have helped the team reach third place in the AFC Champions League Group B, with 13 points from six games, three points behind leaders Al-Hilal. Al-Nassr will resume action against Al-Akhdoud in the Saudi Pro League on January 9, 2025, after the winter break.
