Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke has used social media to send a message to his teammate Lucas Bergvall following their 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the League Cup on Wednesday (January 8).
Bergvall, 18, netted the decisive goal in the 86th minute after Solanke, 27, outpaced Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate to win the ball, then slid it to the young forward, who finished past Alisson.
The goal marked Bergvall’s first for the club since his summer transfer from Djurgarden.
The moment nearly didn’t happen after Bergvall was lucky to avoid a second yellow card for a reckless challenge on Konstantinos Tsimikas.
Liverpool’s bench was outraged by the decision to allow the goal, with one of Arne Slot’s coaching staff receiving a yellow card for their reaction.
In his post-match press conference, Slot commented on the situation, saying: “What we know is that he (Bergvall) didn’t stop the counter-attack.
Every manager would rather have a second yellow card than let a counter-attack continue with one player less, especially when there’s still 80 yards to cover.”
