Liverpool fans are expressing concern over one player and urging manager Arne Slot to take action following their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.
The match, held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday, saw Lucas Bergvall score the only goal of the game in the 86th minute, giving Spurs a slim advantage ahead of next month’s second leg at Anfield.
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, however, voiced frustration, arguing that Bergvall should not have avoided a second yellow card shortly before his match-winning goal.
For Liverpool, this was only their second loss of the season. Despite that, fans are focusing on Jarell Quansah’s performance in defense, with many calling for a new centre-back in the January transfer window.
Quansah, who has made 10 appearances this season, was substituted before halftime due to feeling unwell. Supporters expressed worry for the 21-year-old on social media, with one user stating, “I’m really worried about Quansah. I had no faith in him at all in the first half. Felt more confident when Endo came on. It’s clear we need another defender in January.” Another commented, “Unbelievable how bad Quansah is. Can’t do a thing right,” while a third added, “Even before he went off, what has happened to Quansah? His confidence seems shattered, and he was struggling with simple passes.”
Slot later explained the substitution, saying, “He didn’t feel well, so from the start of the game until we took him off, he mentioned feeling pressure on his chest. It wasn’t an injury but more about not feeling well.
He’d been a bit ill in recent days, and we thought he was recovering, but that might have been a factor. I need to check with him for more details.”
