“Robbie Fowler Slams Darwin Nunez Again, Says He’s ‘Not a Liverpool Player'”
Robbie Fowler delivered another harsh critique of Darwin Nunez following Liverpool’s dominant 4-0 win over Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup, reigniting concerns about the striker’s future at Anfield.
Despite the comfortable victory at Anfield that saw Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jayden Danns, and Federico Chiesa all get on the scoresheet, much of the focus remained on Nunez’s performance. While he assisted Jota for the opening goal, his overall display once again fell short of expectations.
Speaking to ITV before the match, Fowler didn’t hold back. “We’re still saying the same things about him now as we were two or three years ago. He’s raw, he’s this, he’s that. You can’t keep repeating that. The more I watch him, the more I think he’s not a Liverpool player,” Fowler stated.
He continued, acknowledging Nunez’s work ethic but emphasizing that it’s not enough for a club like Liverpool. “People might criticize me for saying this because he works hard, but you don’t sign a player just for his work ethic. That should be a given. You need to come here and score goals. I know he’s a fan favorite for his effort, but at this point, you have to perform better and do more in that Liverpool shirt.”
When asked what Nunez was lacking, Fowler said: “I don’t think he’s quick enough in his decision-making, particularly when it comes to finishing. He’s quick on the ground, we know how fast he is, but as a striker, your speed of thought has to be quicker than everyone else’s.”
After the game, Fowler shifted his focus to Danns’ goal, which he felt demonstrated the qualities Nunez is missing. Praising Danns’ intelligent movement, Fowler pointed out how the 18-year-old made an immediate run into the box after passing to Chiesa. “That’s what we love about him. His attitude is fantastic,” Fowler said.
He added, “What I love about him is the way he immediately wanted to get back into the box. Nunez, on the other hand, will receive the ball, pass it, and then hang back.”
With just four goals in 25 appearances this season, Nunez has been under increasing scrutiny and has been linked with a potential move away from Liverpool this month.
