“Robbie Fowler Slams Liverpool Star, Claims He’s ‘Not Cut Out for Liverpool’ Right Now”
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has delivered a sharp critique of one player, stating that he feels the player is “not cut out for Liverpool” at this point in time.
Fowler made the comments while serving as a pundit for ITV during Liverpool’s FA Cup third-round match against Accrington Stanley.
Following the 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup, manager Arne Slot made several changes to the lineup, with Diogo Jota and Wataru Endo among those starting, as well as Darwin Nunez. Nunez, who has scored only four goals this season, has been the subject of growing speculation regarding his future at Anfield.
When asked about Nunez’s situation, Fowler didn’t hold back. “The more I watch him, the more I believe he’s not a Liverpool player. People may criticise me for saying that, but it’s how I see it,” Fowler said.
He continued, emphasizing that Liverpool’s standards go beyond just work rate. “You’re not signing a player just for his work ethic. You’ve got to come in and score goals. I know he’s a fan favourite because of his effort, but in that Liverpool shirt, you need to do more and perform at a higher level.”
While Fowler was critical, he also acknowledged that Nunez still has potential to improve. “I don’t think his thinking is fast enough, especially when it comes to his finishing. He’s quick on the ground, but as a striker, his decision-making has to be quicker,” Fowler explained.
He further added, “When he has time to think, he tends to struggle. When it’s more instinctive, it’s sometimes better, but we still expect more. His speed of thought as a striker—knowing where to be and how to finish—needs to improve.”
