Liverpool manager Arne Slot has responded after being taunted by Nottingham Forest fans during their 1-1 draw on Tuesday night.
Forest, the only team to defeat Liverpool in the Premier League this season, have now created a new chant celebrating their historic 1-0 win at Anfield in September.
As anticipation built ahead of the return fixture at the City Ground, both teams were in excellent form—Forest sitting in the top three and Liverpool six points clear at the top. The match had a nostalgic feel, evoking memories of the 1970s when Bob Paisley and Brian Clough’s teams battled for European glory.
The game lived up to expectations early on, with Chris Wood scoring for Forest in the 8th minute against the run of play. The lead held until Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota came off the bench to combine for the equalizer.
By then, Forest fans had already found their voice, singing a new chant in celebration of their club’s resurgence from relegation struggles last season to a serious European qualification contender this year.
Among the chants was the playful “Arne Slot, it’s happening again” and the catchy “We’re in your head, in your head, Arne, Arne, Arne-Ne-Ne,” set to the tune of The Cranberries’ 1994 hit “Zombie.”
When asked about the chants during his post-match press conference, Slot humorously responded, “I thought they just liked the style of play my team had!” after a journalist explained the taunts to him.
Liverpool will aim to return to winning ways when they face Brentford on Saturday, before their Champions League campaign continues with a home match against Lille on Tuesday.
Despite sitting atop the Premier League and Champions League tables, Liverpool has failed to win in their last three games, although the accumulated points from those matches have allowed them to stay relatively untroubled so far.
