Benjamin Sesko has agreed to move to Arsenal, with the transfer expected to be completed soon. This comes as Arsenal faces ongoing injury problems, prompting the club to consider bringing forward one of their summer transfer targets. Barcelona is also keeping an eye on Sesko, potentially creating competition for his signature.
According to Mirror Football’s John Cross, Sesko had previously expressed a preference for joining Arsenal over other Premier League clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea, as well as Italian teams. The 21-year-old Slovenian forward, currently with RB Leipzig, had initially decided to stay for another season in Germany.
However, Sesko has a £60m “gentleman’s agreement” allowing him to leave in the summer of 2025, unless a substantial offer comes in January.
RB Leipzig intends to honor this agreement but could be swayed by a tempting bid. Barcelona’s financial difficulties may limit their ability to secure Sesko, which could give Arsenal an advantage. Waiting until the summer may lead to more competition for the forward, so Arsenal is keen to act swiftly.
Arsenal is also considering other attacking options for this window, including Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao, though his wage demands of over £300,000 per week are a hurdle. Other alternatives under consideration are Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic and Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon.
Bringing in a forward this month would help Arsenal cope with their injury crisis, which has seen key players sidelined. Bukayo Saka is recovering from a hamstring injury, and Gabriel Jesus is out for the season with a knee problem. Manager Mikel Arteta has stressed the importance of reinforcing the team’s attacking options.
Ahead of Arsenal’s match with Aston Villa, Arteta acknowledged the need for reinforcements: “We are actively searching for the best solution. I won’t discuss specific players, but losing two key attacking players has made us in need of more support.”
With Sesko eager to join Arsenal, the club is determined to move quickly to finalize the deal.
