Manchester United’s £34m Deal Could Pave the Way for Liverpool’s Arne Slot Target
Manchester United’s ongoing pursuit of 20-year-old left wing-back Patrick Dorgu from Serie A club Lecce may unintentionally help Liverpool in securing one of manager Arne Slot’s top transfer targets.
United are in advanced talks to bring Dorgu, who has been highly praised as one of the best young talents in world football, to Old Trafford. The versatile player, who has impressed with three goals in 20 Serie A appearances, is seen as a key addition to United’s squad under manager Ruben Amorim. Dorgu’s ability to play on both wings and his attacking contributions make him an attractive option for the Premier League side.
However, if United complete the Dorgu deal, it could signal the end of their pursuit of another left-back target, Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez. The Hungarian defender, who has been exceptional in the Premier League this season with two goals and three assists in 23 appearances, could now find a clear path to Liverpool. The Reds are reportedly keen on signing Kerkez to bolster their squad and fit him into Slot’s tactical system at Anfield.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola recently addressed rumors about Kerkez’s future, downplaying the speculation and expressing uncertainty about the truth behind the transfer reports. He praised the 21-year-old for his maturity and growth since the previous season, acknowledging that Kerkez is continuing to develop into one of the Premier League’s standout defenders. Despite this, Iraola made it clear that he hopes Kerkez will stay at Bournemouth to further refine his game.
If United’s move for Dorgu is finalized, it could open the door for Liverpool to act on their interest in Kerkez, with the young full-back potentially becoming a key part of Slot’s plans.
