With just a week left before the January transfer window closes, Arsenal are under pressure to finalize deals for both new signings and players potentially leaving the club.
Manager Mikel Arteta has expressed the need for attacking reinforcements after injuries to key forwards Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, stating, “We lack goals, we lack people, we lack options in the frontline.” He emphasized that any new signings must be impactful, adding that the team is already struggling with a shortage of attacking options.
Arsenal are reportedly pursuing 25-year-old Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha, with a £60million bid potentially enough to tempt Wolves into selling. However, Wolves’ manager Vitor Pereira has insisted that Cunha remains committed to the club, despite growing interest from other teams.
In addition to Cunha, Arsenal are also in talks to sign 18-year-old midfielder Sverre Nypan from Norwegian club Rosenborg. Nypan, who was recently featured on The Guardian’s ‘Next Generation’ list of top young players, has impressed with his performances, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 24 appearances last season. Manchester City are also said to be monitoring the player, adding competition for his signature.
Meanwhile, Kieran Tierney could be on his way out of Arsenal, with Celtic reportedly in discussions to bring back their former defender on a pre-contract deal.
Tierney, who joined Arsenal in 2019 for £25million, has just six months left on his contract. He spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad, and Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reportedly given him the green light to leave the club.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has acknowledged the possibility of Tierney returning but stated that they will only talk about the player once a deal is finalized.
