BREAKING NEWS: Federico Chiesa Sets Historic Record at Liverpool, Unmatched Since 1906
Federico Chiesa may still be adjusting to life under Arne Slot at Liverpool, but he’s already etched his name into the club’s history books with an achievement that hasn’t been matched since 1906.
While it’s not exactly the milestone he might have envisioned early in his Anfield journey, Chiesa has won all eight of his appearances for the club so far.
As noted by Opta’s Michael Reid, this makes him the first player since George Latham to win his first eight competitive matches for Liverpool, a feat Latham last achieved in 1906. Interestingly, Jayden Danns also matched Chiesa’s record after coming on as a substitute in Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Ipswich on Saturday.
The £12.5 million summer signing has seen his playing time steadily increase in recent weeks as he regains full fitness following a difficult period. In the last two weeks, he’s played as many matches (four) as he did in the previous four months, indicating a positive return to form.
Chiesa’s recent contributions include scoring his first goal for Liverpool in a 4-0 FA Cup win over Accrington Stanley, as well as appearances against Brentford, Lille, and Ipswich. He’s now close to earning his first start under Slot, potentially in the upcoming Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven or more likely in the FA Cup match against Plymouth on February 9.
While this perfect start is an interesting tidbit, it’s unlikely to be something Chiesa will dwell on for long, as he’s focused on fully integrating into the team. As for George Latham, after his own eight-game winning streak, he only managed one more victory in his 19-game Liverpool career before leaving for Southport following a rough patch.
For Chiesa, the hope is that this record signals the beginning of a successful chapter at Anfield.
