“Liverpool Confirm First January Signing with Official Announcement”
Liverpool have officially announced their first transfer of the January window.
Despite reports suggesting a quiet month for the Premier League leaders, rumors surrounding key players such as Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah persist, as their contracts approach expiration.
Additionally, speculation continues regarding struggling striker Darwin Núñez, who has yet to make a significant impact under manager Arne Slot.
On Monday afternoon, following a disappointing 2-2 draw against Manchester United, Liverpool confirmed that goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga will be leaving the club for a permanent return to Fluminense, pending international clearance.
A club statement read: “Goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga has agreed to a permanent transfer from Liverpool to his former club Fluminense, subject to international clearance. The Brazilian bids farewell after over four years, during which he was included in the senior matchday squad seven times.”
The statement continued: “Pitaluga also gained valuable experience on loan at Macclesfield FC, St Patrick’s Athletic, and Livingston. He will now return to Fluminense, the club where his professional career began. Everyone at LFC wishes Marcelo the best for the future.”
Pitaluga, who joined Liverpool in 2020 for a reported £2 million, made his unofficial first-team debut in a 4-4 pre-season friendly against Greuther Fürth.
Though he never featured in a competitive match for Liverpool, the 22-year-old impressed during his loan spell at Macclesfield, where he made 26 appearances. After stints with St Patrick’s Athletic and Livingston, the Brazilian goalkeeper will now continue his career in his home country.
