Liverpool’s first signing of the January transfer window could be close, with reports suggesting the club is contemplating a deal involving Ben Doak plus cash to bring in a new player.
The Reds are reportedly considering using the young winger as part of a package to secure the acquisition of Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo. This potential move comes as Liverpool looks to bolster their attacking options for the second half of the season.
Ben Doak is currently one of the most sought-after young talents in English football, largely due to his impressive performances on loan at Middlesbrough. The Scottish international has been in great form under Michael Carrick, contributing to eight goals in 21 Championship appearances so far this season (2024/25).
Doak’s standout displays have already caught the attention of clubs like Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town, with Liverpool reportedly rejecting offers from both. The Reds are said to value the 19-year-old winger at £30 million.
Liverpool are also reportedly considering the possibility of including Doak as part of a deal to sign Antoine Semenyo, a winger from Bournemouth, as part of their efforts to strengthen their forward line.
According to The Northern Echo’s Scott Wilson, this move could be in the works, though it remains to be seen if any club will meet Liverpool’s asking price for Doak.
Semenyo, who primarily plays as a right winger but can also operate on the left, has had a solid season with Bournemouth, contributing nine goals in 21 games across all competitions. His performances have helped push the team to seventh in the Premier League.
While his stats suggest he’s not yet at the level of top-tier players like Mo Salah and Luis Diaz, his potential could improve if he joins Liverpool, especially with a more dynamic attacking setup.
Despite these considerations, Doak, at just 19, still has a lot of room for growth. Letting go of such a promising talent to bring in Semenyo may not seem like the best decision at this point, though Liverpool may see something special in the Bournemouth forward.
