Virgil van Dijk’s agent reportedly offered him to a major European club, but the proposal was TURNED DOWN, according to shocking reports.
Van Dijk has been at the center of transfer rumors, with his current contract at Liverpool set to expire at the end of the season. He is in ongoing discussions with the club about a new deal, alongside teammates Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who are in similar situations.
As Van Dijk enters the final six months of his contract, he is free to negotiate with foreign clubs.
Spanish outlet Relevo claims that his representatives have already reached out to Real Madrid, informing them of the Dutch defender’s interest in joining the club in the summer of 2025.
However, the offer was rejected by Real Madrid, who reportedly dismissed the proposal based on Van Dijk’s ‘age’ and ‘condition,’ opting instead for players who fit their future plans more closely.
The 33-year-old has been with Liverpool since January 2018, following his £75 million transfer from Southampton. He has been in excellent form this season, making 25 appearances as Liverpool competes across multiple fronts.
After a 2-2 draw with Manchester United, Van Dijk was asked about his contract status, to which he simply replied, “Nothing.” When pressed for an update, he added, “I don’t think so, but I’m calm about it, like I said months ago.
We’ll see what happens in the future, but for now, I’m focusing on the team and the next game against Spurs. It will be a tough match, but a good [Carabao Cup] semi-final.”
Meanwhile, Arne Slot, who has kept Van Dijk in the starting lineup this season, isn’t concerned about his contract situation. “The contract issue only becomes a problem if the players aren’t performing as they are now,” Slot said last November. “Right now, all three of them are in a good place, performing really well.
There are ongoing discussions with the relevant people, but that’s not me. I talk to him about other matters. Van Dijk is right to say that he doesn’t know what his future holds until he signs the contract.”
