Alisson Praises Mohamed Salah’s Defensive Efforts in Liverpool’s Win Over Bournemouth
Alisson Becker and Mohamed Salah both played crucial roles in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Bournemouth, with Salah scoring twice to secure the win, including a penalty and a stunning curling effort. However, it was Salah’s defensive contributions that particularly stood out to the goalkeeper, who was instrumental in maintaining the Reds’ clean sheet.
Alisson, who made several key saves to keep Bournemouth at bay, highlighted how important Salah’s work off the ball was, especially since the Egyptian forward isn’t typically known for his defensive duties. Speaking to Sky Sports, Alisson said: “He knows how important he is for the team when he scores this kind of goal, but we have to highlight all his hard work as well to defend today. It’s something that he doesn’t like to do much! But he did it for the team – not only him, everybody – and did it for this great result that we have here away from home against Bournemouth.”
Alisson further praised his teammates for their collective effort, noting the desire and mentality shown against a Bournemouth side that had been in strong form, having scored nine goals in their last two league matches. He added: “They are really intense. If you look to the data, they are one of the top teams for running, for intensity. The way they play, they are aggressive as well. Marking, they never let a player turn or receive the ball free, so you have to be focused, really sharp in every situation when you have the ball.”
Looking ahead to the rest of the season, Alisson stressed the importance of maintaining this level of commitment: “The Premier League is in a high standard this season. All the teams are giving troubles to the top six, and we have to keep going with this spirit, game by game, step by step, and think about the next challenge.”
In response to Alisson’s praise, Salah acknowledged his goalkeeper’s critical role in the victory, saying: “Incredible, incredible. He knows how important he is for us. We have been together six or seven years here, I’ve been with him for two years in Rome as well. We know each other very well. He works very hard, also the defensive line works very hard, so I am happy for them.”
The victory keeps Liverpool nine points clear at the top of the Premier League, as they continue to push for the title.
