Liverpool resumed their Premier League season at home to Wolves on Sunday after drawing 2-2 with Everton earlier in the week. The Goodison Park match ended controversially, with referee Michael Oliver issuing four red cards after the final whistle.
Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure were sent off following a confrontation on the pitch that led to a brawl. Slot and his assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, were also dismissed due to their heated reaction toward the officials.
Despite his red card at Everton, Slot was allowed to remain on the touchline for the Wolves game because the FA has not yet made a ruling on his punishment.
The FA will decide after reviewing Oliver’s official report, and no action can be taken until Slot and his staff have responded to the charges. This means he could continue in his role until a decision is made.
If a hearing is scheduled, it could delay any punishment, which may include a touchline ban or a fine. Should Slot receive a touchline ban, he would be prohibited from being in the dugout and near the touchline for two hours before and after matches. If this happens, he could miss Liverpool’s upcoming league games against Aston Villa and Manchester City.
Slot did not comment after the Everton match but shared his thoughts on his red card during a pre-match press conference on Friday.
He admitted, “I can usually control my emotions well, but I clearly couldn’t after the game. If I had another chance, I wouldn’t have reacted that way, but emotions got the better of me.”
