Arsenal have been fined £65,000 following their players’ furious response to referee Michael Oliver’s decision to send off Myles Lewis-Skelly during their Premier League win over Wolves on January 25.
The Football Association (FA) charged the club for failing to ensure their players behaved properly after nine Arsenal players surrounded Oliver in protest when he issued a straight red card for a foul on Matt Doherty.
Despite VAR official Darren England upholding the decision, Arsenal appealed, and the 18-year-old’s three-match ban was eventually overturned.
After the match, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) confirmed that police were investigating threats and abuse directed at referee Oliver and his family on social media.
Arsenal admitted the charge of improper conduct, and an independent regulatory commission imposed the £65,000 fine.
