Despite his past ambitions to play for Barcelona, even reportedly willing to take a pay cut to make the move possible, Rashford’s hefty salary demands—rumored to be over £325,000 per week—made the transfer unfeasible. The economic challenges for both Rashford and Barcelona made this potential move impractical.
Instead, Rashford secured a loan move to Aston Villa, where the club agreed to cover at least 75% of his wages, with performance-related bonuses possibly bringing this up to 90%. Villa also has an option to make the transfer permanent for £40 million, which could prove to be a bargain if Rashford returns to top form.
Aston Villa’s manager, Unai Emery, played a key role in bringing Rashford to the club. Emery believes he can help Rashford regain his best form, similar to his impressive 2022/23 season when he netted 30 goals in all competitions. Some reports claim Villa player Donyell Malen is upset about being left out of the Champions League squad due to Rashford’s arrival, highlighting the pressures surrounding this loan deal.

During his presentation at Villa, he mentioned, “Obviously it’s only short-term I’m here,” which has sparked rumors that he still hopes to play for one of Europe’s elite clubs, with Barcelona remaining a potential destination in future transfer windows.
