Barcelona was widely linked with a move for Marcus Rashford during the January transfer window, especially after the forward was sidelined at Manchester United.
Reports suggested that Rashford was keen on joining the Catalan club, but the deal never materialized, and he ultimately opted for a loan move to Aston Villa.
Deco has now clarified in an interview with Diario Sport that while Barcelona considered Rashford, they were never desperate to sign him in the winter window.
“The winter market is always tricky. In the past, there were key moments for Barça, like the signing of Davids, but there’s no player like him available now,” he explained. “It’s tough because the top players, the ones who could make an impact, aren’t on the market. Rashford was mentioned, but we weren’t urgently looking for a player. We knew we were getting some players back and others were improving. If Rashford had come, that would have been great, but it wasn’t a priority.”
Rashford will now aim to revive his career at Villa, where his loan deal includes a purchase option, meaning the move could become permanent.
