Calum Scanlon, a promising young left-back currently on loan at Millwall, has been ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining a severe hamstring injury.
The 19-year-old had been gaining important first-team experience in the Championship, but his progress has been interrupted by an injury that required surgery. According to journalist Alex Neil via London News Online, the surgery was successfully carried out, but it will take at least 16 weeks for Scanlon to recover. Consequently, he will return to Liverpool to continue his rehabilitation.
This isn’t Scanlon’s first injury of the season; earlier, he suffered a setback that kept him sidelined for three months.

Scanlon joined Liverpool in December 2020 from Birmingham City, and his rapid development earned him a professional contract in March 2022. He also participated in Liverpool’s pre-season training camp in Germany the following year.
Scanlon made his senior debut for Liverpool in October 2023 during a Europa League match against Toulouse and later signed a long-term contract extension in April 2023. Seeking more first-team action, he was loaned to Millwall in August to make an impact in the Championship.
Although Scanlon made only four league appearances for Millwall this season, he impressed, scoring his first professional goal in a 2-2 draw with Cardiff City. His performances showed great potential, and Liverpool had high hopes for his development in the second half of the campaign.
Now, the focus will be on ensuring his full recovery, as Liverpool is committed to supporting his rehabilitation and helping him return stronger for the 2025/26 season.
While his injury is a setback, it’s one Scanlon will aim to overcome as he continues working toward breaking into Liverpool’s senior team.
