Arne Slot has provided an update on Trent Alexander-Arnold following his injury in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Bournemouth.
The 26-year-old, who had earlier been criticized by Ibrahima Konate for a defensive mistake, limped off the field in the 70th minute with what appeared to be a thigh injury, replaced by Conor Bradley.
Although Liverpool has five days before their next match—the Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham—there are concerns that Trent may struggle to be ready for the fixture.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Slot gave a cautious assessment of the injury: “He asked to come off and then went down, feeling something. I can’t say exactly what it is yet, but it’s never a good sign when a player requests to be substituted. I’d be surprised if he plays on Thursday, but we hope he recovers soon.”
This isn’t Trent’s first injury this season, having missed part of the November international break due to a hamstring issue. Slot’s comment suggests that the player could be sidelined for a period, though the exact duration is still unclear.
Fortunately, with Liverpool’s next Premier League match scheduled for 11 days away, there’s a slight chance Trent might avoid missing any league action. If he’s not fit for Thursday’s Carabao Cup tie, he’s unlikely to be risked for the FA Cup match against Plymouth Argyle the following weekend, even if he’s able to play. Bradley is expected to take his place in the meantime.
