De Jong’s Future Secured?
Amid their on-field dominance, Barcelona is also taking steps to secure key players for the future. According to El Nacional, the club has prioritized extending Frenkie de Jong’s contract until 2029, with Hansi Flick giving his full approval.
Since Flick’s arrival, De Jong has rediscovered his best form, becoming a leader in midfield and a crucial part of Barça’s system. His current contract runs until 2026, but club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco want to eliminate any uncertainty by securing an extension before the summer of 2025.
Other Contract Renewals in the Works
De Jong isn’t the only player Barça wants to tie down long-term. Negotiations are also underway to extend deals for young sensation Lamine Yamal and Brazilian winger Raphinha.
