After joining Brighton in August 2023, midfielder Baleba struggled to secure a regular starting spot initially. However, under Fabian Hürzeler’s management this season, he has become a key player, featuring in 27 matches across all competitions.
Baleba’s impressive performances have attracted the attention of top English clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City. Former Cameroon international Bernard Tchoutang, in an interview with Africa Foot, shared his thoughts on the 21-year-old’s rapid development, admitting he expected Baleba to take two years to fully adjust to the Premier League but was surprised by his swift progress.
Tchoutang acknowledged that Brighton is demanding a substantial fee due to the growing interest in the player but emphasized that Baleba’s strong mentality and support from his family would prevent him from being distracted by the financial aspects.
While Tchoutang suggested that another season at Brighton could benefit his development, he believes the midfielder is ready for a move to a top club. He particularly recommended Liverpool over Chelsea, citing the Reds’ style of play under Arne Slot as an ideal fit for Baleba.
“Liverpool would be the perfect destination for him,” Tchoutang said. “Their pressing, attacking football, and trust in young players would allow him to thrive. Chelsea, on the other hand, are having an average season and aren’t on the same level as Liverpool or Arsenal. Baleba has what it takes to play for one of England’s best teams, and he’s ready to make that step.”
