Spain Coach Calls for Protection of Lamine Yamal

Spain’s head coach, Luis de la Fuente, has urged the media to refrain from overly criticizing Lamine Yamal. He emphasized that the 17-year-old is still in the process of developing and maturing, and excessive media scrutiny could hinder his growth.

Yamal made a name for himself during the Euro 2024 tournament, where his standout performances helped Spain secure the championship. His impressive displays have since made him a key figure for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team, raising the expectations surrounding him.

In comments reported by Eurosport, de la Fuente shared: “What do I ask of Lamine? To enjoy football, keep doing what he loves, and continue developing his understanding of the game. As for what I ask of you, it’s to remember that he is still a young player who hasn’t fully matured yet. He has great potential, but it’s important not to be too harsh on him.”

“Now, everyone is calling him a talented player, but if he doesn’t score in two consecutive games, the criticism starts. This approach isn’t fair. He needs to be prepared for feedback, but I ask that you avoid placing too much pressure on him.”
