Manchester United has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to sign Swedish striker Victor Gyökeres from Sporting Lisbon, with the deal set to be finalized in the summer transfer window.
Despite the club’s struggles in the forward position this season, United opted not to make a marquee signing in January, as negotiations for Gyökeres were already in progress. The 26-year-old, who has been in sensational form with 34 goals across all competitions, has now agreed to personal terms with the Red Devils.
Gyökeres joined Sporting from Coventry City in 2023 and quickly became a standout performer due to his speed and clinical finishing. Even amid managerial changes, his impressive goal-scoring record has kept him on the radar of top clubs.
Although Gyökeres’ current contract with Sporting runs until 2028 and includes a €100 million release clause, reports suggest the Portuguese club is willing to negotiate a fee around €70 million to facilitate his move to Old Trafford.
United sees Gyökeres as a key part of their long-term plans, particularly given his success under former Sporting manager Rúben Amorim. If the deal goes through as expected, he will be a significant addition to United’s attacking lineup. However, due to financial fair play regulations, fans should wait for official confirmation before celebrating the transfer.
