Kevin De Bruyne has confirmed he’ll leave Manchester City at the end of the season, sparking rumors about his next destination. While links to Saudi Arabia emerged, the Belgian star reportedly wants to stay in Europe—and a shock move to Liverpool is now on the cards.
According to Belgian outlet De Standaard, one sentimental factor fueling speculation is that De Bruyne’s grandfather is a Liverpool fan. A transfer to Merseyside would also allow De Bruyne’s family to remain in the Manchester area, where they’ve lived for a decade.
Speaking to Viaplay, De Bruyne didn’t rule out staying in the Premier League:
“It could be possible… The decision to leave City has only just been made.”
While a move to a direct rival like Liverpool would be surprising, nothing is off the table in football. Meanwhile, City are eyeing replacements, including Morgan Gibbs-White and James Maddison.
