A Liverpool player who has seen limited action this season is now on the radar of one of football’s most well-known managers.
Federico Chiesa’s start to life at Anfield hasn’t gone as planned. After arriving without a proper pre-season, the Italian has struggled with fitness and failed to secure a regular spot in Liverpool’s starting XI. Since January, he’s played only 15 Premier League minutes, even as the Reds have featured in 16 matches.
Now, according to Turkish outlet *A Spor*, Jose Mourinho—currently at the helm of Fenerbahce—has made Chiesa a top priority for the summer transfer window. The ex-Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham boss is reportedly eager to strengthen his options on the wing and sees the 27-year-old as a key addition.
While Liverpool manager Arne Slot initially defended Chiesa’s absence due to fitness, his continued exclusion remains puzzling—especially after Chiesa’s impressive display in the Carabao Cup final. Despite publicly supporting the forward, Slot hasn’t provided many opportunities for the Italian to build momentum.
ITV commentator Seb Hutchinson once described Chiesa as a “top-level talent” after his FA Cup goal in January, a sentiment many Liverpool fans likely shared at the time.
However, if Chiesa is to move this summer, critics warn Fenerbahce might not be the ideal destination—particularly under Mourinho, who is known for being tough on players and has publicly criticized past stars like Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial, and Dele Alli.
Given Chiesa’s fragile standing at the moment, some argue that a move to work under Mourinho could do more harm than good to his confidence.
