Raphinha’s future at Barcelona is more uncertain now than it was just weeks ago. Despite the club’s strong appreciation for his performances this season and interest in extending his contract past June 2027, the Brazilian winger’s high wage demands have made a potential exit more likely.
As reported by Catalunya Ràdio’s “Tot Costa,” negotiations have started between Raphinha’s camp and sporting director Deco over a contract renewal. Barcelona believes his impact—especially in La Liga and the Champions League, where he’s matched records held by Messi—warrants a pay raise. But both sides are still far from reaching an agreement.
Raphinha’s agents are reportedly demanding a salary more in line with what players earn in the Premier League or Saudi Arabia, which doesn’t align with Barça’s financial limits. Deco’s stance, according to the report, was firm: if another club is ready to meet both the wage demands and a transfer fee of €80–90 million, Barcelona would seriously consider selling.
Initially, the club aimed to extend Raphinha’s deal under more modest terms—similar to Ronald Araujo’s deal—with a fair release clause and Financial Fair Play-compliant wages. But with the club’s ongoing economic constraints, priorities have shifted. Unlike younger stars like Lamine Yamal, Raphinha is no longer considered untouchable.
2026 World Cup Could Be a Turning Point
Raphinha’s camp has suggested he wants to stay in Europe until the 2026 World Cup, meaning a move to Saudi Arabia is unlikely for now. He’s focused on performing at a high level in Europe to be in top shape for Brazil during the tournament.
Still, the possibility of a transfer isn’t off the table. Barcelona is open to keeping him—if he aligns with the club’s project—but also needs to raise funds to strengthen other positions, like defensive midfield and left-back.
While Raphinha is currently enjoying one of his best runs at the club and has the backing of coach Hansi Flick, Deco has made it clear: a significant offer could seal his exit.
