Manchester United is reportedly set to pursue Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta as an alternative to Liam Delap, who is also a target for Chelsea. The club plans to secure a new striker this summer due to ongoing issues with their current forwards. Mateta, who has impressed with 17 goals and four assists this season, has emerged as a strong option for United, especially after his role in helping Crystal Palace reach the FA Cup final.

While Manchester United is primarily focused on signing Ipswich Town’s Delap, who has a £30 million release clause due to Ipswich’s relegation, Chelsea is also keen on securing the 22-year-old’s services. Delap has scored 12 goals in the Premier League this season, his first in the top flight. However, given the competition, Manchester United is prepared to turn to Mateta if Delap proves difficult to secure.

Additionally, Manchester United is nearing an agreement to sign Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, who has scored 15 goals this season despite Wolves’ struggles. The Red Devils are prioritizing Cunha, and they are willing to meet his £62.5 million release clause, even if it requires paying in installments to avoid financial sanctions. Should they complete this transfer, it would end their pursuit of Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku, who they had considered in January.
