Federico Chiesa’s transition to Liverpool has been anything but smooth since joining from Juventus last summer. Despite being the club’s only signing and costing just £10 million due to his injury history in Italy, the 27-year-old winger has found opportunities hard to come by.
New manager Arne Slot made history by winning the Premier League in his debut season, but Chiesa hasn’t played a major role in that success. With competition from Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota, Luis Díaz, and even a struggling Darwin Núñez, Chiesa has slipped down the pecking order.
Reports suggested he could return to Italy in January, though a transfer didn’t materialize. Fitness issues have plagued his season, and when called upon, he’s shown flashes of potential—most notably in the Carabao Cup and against Brentford. However, an underwhelming performance in an FA Cup loss to Plymouth reportedly raised doubts among the coaching staff.
So far, he’s only logged 395 minutes on the pitch. Journalist Lewis Steele noted that while Chiesa hasn’t had a real chance to prove himself, he remains on the fringes as Liverpool’s sixth-choice forward. With just a few games left, his future remains unclear, even though his contract runs until 2028.
