David Ornstein has suggested Liverpool may be eyeing a summer move for a player who is reportedly eager to join the club.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold confirming his exit from Liverpool after this season, the club is expected to look for a new right-back in the upcoming transfer window.
EOTK recently reported that Liverpool is preparing an initial bid for Jeremie Frimpong, currently at Bayer Leverkusen. Ornstein, a well-known journalist from The Athletic, echoed this by highlighting Liverpool’s potential interest in the Dutch full-back.
Speaking on NBC Sports, Ornstein stated that Frimpong might be available this summer and is likely open to a move to Anfield. He explained: “If Liverpool opts for a more versatile option, Frimpong could be a candidate. His release clause is around €35 million (£29.8m), from what I understand. I also believe he would be interested in joining Liverpool if the club pursues him. They are considering other players too, but Frimpong has come up frequently in reports.”
A Huge Opportunity for Liverpool
If the 24-year-old is genuinely enthusiastic about the move, it would make sense for Liverpool’s new sporting director Richard Hughes to pursue the deal.
Although Conor Bradley has shown promise, his injury history raises concerns about relying solely on him next season. While Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah can fill in at right-back, they are not specialists in the position.
Frimpong would be an ideal replacement for Trent, offering similar attacking qualities from the right. The Leverkusen defender has notched 18 goals and 24 assists over the past two seasons, highlighting his offensive prowess.
Statistically, he stands out among full-backs in Europe’s top five leagues — ranking in the top 1% for non-penalty expected goals and touches in the opposition box, top 2% for progressive carries, top 5% for shots, and top 7% for expected assists.
Securing a player of Frimpong’s caliber for £30 million would be a major win for Liverpool, especially given Ornstein’s reliable claim that the player is interested in the move
