Liverpool FC Women’s captain Niamh Fahey, aged 38, has announced she will retire at the end of the season, concluding a distinguished playing career. Her final match will be at Stamford Bridge—where she once celebrated a double-winning season with Arsenal a decade ago.
Fahey, a central defender from Galway, Ireland, began her professional journey in 2008 with Arsenal, enjoying an impressive debut season. During her time there, she won several major trophies, including WSL titles and FA Cups, establishing herself as one of the top defenders in women’s football.
Though her path took her through France with Bordeaux, Fahey always dreamed of playing for Liverpool. That dream was realized in 2018 when she signed with the Reds. Over five years, she made more than 120 WSL appearances and played a crucial role in Liverpool’s return to the top tier, captaining them to the 2022 FA Women’s Championship title.
