Chelsea Attempt to Deter Real Madrid from Pursuing Enzo Fernandez with €200m Valuation: Reports
Chelsea have reportedly placed a €200 million price tag on midfielder Enzo Fernandez in an effort to discourage interest from Real Madrid, according to Football Transfers. The Argentine star had a tough start under new coach Enzo Maresca but has since reestablished his role in the squad.
Fernandez is a rising star in Europe and a key player for Argentina. Real Madrid, still seeking a long-term replacement for Toni Kroos—who retired last summer—and with Luka Modric’s contract set to expire next month, are expected to strengthen their midfield. Fernandez has reportedly been one of their targets.
Initially, Real Madrid hoped to capitalize on Fernandez’s uncertain situation at Chelsea, but his resurgence has solidified his spot in the team. Chelsea, who bought him from Benfica for €121 million in January 2023, view him as vital to their project and will only consider letting him go for a massive fee.
Real Madrid, however, are unwilling to meet that valuation and have informed Chelsea accordingly. Instead, they are now exploring other midfield options, including Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.
Potential Transfer Battle Brewing Over Argentine Wonderkid
Chelsea and Real Madrid may also find themselves in competition over River Plate’s 17-year-old talent Franco Mastantuono, reports 90 Min (via Gazzetta dello Sport). While Manchester United are also reportedly interested, Manchester City and PSG are considered the front-runners.
Mastantuono, who has already made appearances for River Plate’s senior team, is seen as one of South America’s brightest young prospects. Although Chelsea are keen, the youngster is reportedly more inclined to join Real Madrid. That said, Madrid are hesitant due to his €40 million price tag, casting doubt over a potential move.
