Kevin De Bruyne Responds to Liverpool Transfer Rumors Amid Reported Offer
After a decade at Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne confirmed in April that he will leave the club at the end of the season. Since that announcement, several clubs have been linked with the Belgian midfielder—including rivals Liverpool, who are rumored to have made a surprise contract offer.
The speculation has sparked renewed interest in De Bruyne’s past remarks about Liverpool. Old interviews have resurfaced showing his admiration for the club. Despite his incredible success at City, where he won 16 major trophies under Pep Guardiola, De Bruyne has spoken fondly of Liverpool, his childhood favorite team.
In a throwback interview from his days at Genk, De Bruyne once shared, “My favourite team is Liverpool FC and my favourite player is Michael Owen. I’d like to play there.” He echoed similar sentiments in a 2019 interview, explaining that his family supported Liverpool and that he admired players like Owen, Zidane, and Ronaldinho.
He also praised the Anfield atmosphere in another 2019 interview, saying, “I like Anfield… I love people being on you, being noisy — that’s what football is about.”
Although Liverpool insiders such as James Pearce and Ian Doyle have downplayed reports of an official offer, rumors continue to swirl about a possible shock move for the 33-year-old star to Anfield.
