Following Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to West Ham, manager Ruben Amorim has conceded that if the team’s poor form continues, it may be time for the club to seek new leadership. Reports indicate that United’s executives already have a contingency plan should the slump carry into the next season.
Sunday’s loss was United’s 17th in the Premier League this season, temporarily dropping them to 17th place—just above relegation-threatened Tottenham—before they ultimately settled in 16th. After the match, Amorim addressed the media and highlighted deeper issues within the club.
“This isn’t about individual players; it’s about me and the club’s mentality as a whole,” said Amorim. “We must change the culture this summer. If there’s no improvement by next season, someone else should step in.”
According to The Athletic, club leaders Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Sir Dave Brailsford, and Omar Berrada are ready to act on Amorim’s own admissions if the team’s performance doesn’t improve. While they’re hesitant to part ways with their first managerial appointment so soon, the current trajectory is unsustainable.
Amorim’s early promise has faded, with just 24 points earned from 25 games since November and a -11 goal difference. Analysts argue the current squad isn’t a good fit for his preferred three-at-the-back setup.
