Arsenal are close to finalizing a deal with Sporting Lisbon forward Viktor Gyokeres, putting them ahead of Premier League rivals in the competition for his signature.
According to CaughtOffside, the Gunners are in advanced negotiations and have reportedly offered the Swedish striker a five-year contract valued at around £9 million annually.
Despite Arsenal being the frontrunners, Manchester United and Liverpool remain firmly in the hunt. Sources suggest United are preparing an official bid, while Liverpool have made contact as they search for a replacement for Darwin Nunez.
Gyokeres’ Impressive Form Drawing Widespread Interest
Although Gyokeres hasn’t yet featured in the Premier League or any of Europe’s traditional top five leagues, his goal-scoring stats in Portugal have drawn major attention. Since joining Sporting last season, the 26-year-old has netted 95 goals in 100 games across all competitions.
Seen as a “top player” by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya (per Metro), Gyokeres could provide a more consistent goal threat than current Arsenal forwards Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, neither of whom have shown the potential to score over 25 goals per season.
