Arsenal are aiming to sign a new wide forward in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to sources speaking to Football Insider.
The club wants to improve on the current first-team regular Gabriel Martinelli, 23, as they look to make a major leap next season.
With Bukayo Saka firmly established as the preferred right winger, any new signing will likely play on the opposite side. Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao is reportedly one of their top targets early on.
Earlier reports from Football Insider (May 5) confirmed that Arsenal will not pursue a permanent deal for Raheem Sterling after his loan ends this summer.
Arsenal Poised to Complete Major Winger Signing
Additionally, Mikel Arteta’s squad is eager to strengthen their central striker options due to injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus this season.
According to sources (May 13), Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres is Arsenal’s leading striker target this summer.
Martinelli’s 2024-25 Season at Arsenal
- Appearances: 49 (38 starts)
- Minutes played: 3403
- Goals: 10
- Assists: 6
- Yellow cards: 3
Martinelli has not quite matched the impact of teammate Saka, contributing 10 goals and six assists across 49 games this season.
He has shared playing time with 30-year-old Leandro Trossard, as Arsenal have fallen short of their ambitions in the Premier League and Champions League during the 2024-25 season.
Martinelli’s contract at Emirates runs until 2027, with an option for Arsenal to extend by another year.
Arsenal Plan to Secure Saliba Amid Real Madrid Interest
Separately, Football Insider revealed (May 9) that Arsenal intend to begin contract talks with William Saliba this summer to deter interest from Real Madrid.
Saliba’s current deal expires in June 2027, but Real Madrid have a reputation for pursuing top players nearing the end of their contracts.
Arteta is determined to keep the French defender at Emirates Stadium for the long term
